How C.O.S.P. Got Started

A few years back, a student from the local high school walked into Industry Athletics during off-hours and asked if he could workout. He couldn’t pay for a membership but he wanted to get fit. I told him to come back the next day with some friends and I would put them through a workout.  That’s where the Community of Strength Project began.  That student, along with his friends, started coming back after school twice a week, week after week, in order to get stronger.  They had a place to go after school, they had something to do that they were interested in, and they had some sort of greater purpose.

From there, the Community of Strength Project has grown. The kids now work to raise money every holiday season for Toys for Tots, they band together to work as a team each time they come into the gym, they are mentored to become the best they can be inside and outside of the gym. That same kid who first walked into the gym wanting to get stronger is now in the military serving our country.

As the COSP continues to grow, we hope to reach more kids of Baltimore City and instill in them a greater purpose. We couldn’t have this kind of impact without the help from our ambassador program and local members helping with their time and donations!

Our History

  • Community of Strength Project established. Check out this video from one of our first workouts!

  • We were able to get the wrestling and basketball teams from Digital Harbor in the gym for our highest attended class – 35 kids.

  • This was the first year we started to track our workouts and journal about how to improve our mental health.

  • We hosted our first golf tournament to raise money for our program.

  • We sent three community of strength project students to the CrossFit Level 1 seminar to continue to foster their knowledge for fitness.

  • Kelsea G. was brought on board to manage and direct the program with Geo Rockwell.

  • Brian G, a former COSP student came back to the gym to help with the program and complete and internship for college.

  • LIn the midst of a crazy year we received an unbelievable donatain from a member at Industry Athletics to revitalize the program.

  • Started working with the St. Francis football team to help them improve their strength and conditioning.

Key Student Outcomes

We pride ourselves in the difference that we can bring to our student member’s life’s both inside the gym and beyond. Here are a few key outcomes of the program.

Students are able to participate in 104 strength and conditioning classes per year.
Students are given opportunities outside of our walls to be matched-up leaders in the Industry Athletics community.
